Since I completed my surround system about 2 years ago, I've been going back and listening to the surround stuff I've collected. I have, though, overlooked this SACD.
As to the album itself, it's not my favorite Roxy recording. I'd give it a 6 out of 10 for the music overall.
Their live video, "The High Road", is my favorite, but, being a video from the 80's, the sound quality is mediocre at best. The performance, though, is fantastic.
The sound of "Avalon" is luscious. Clearmountain's mix in stereo is so bathed in reverb, yet so precise in its imaging (very difficult to do), that it does leave a resounding aural impact.
As a guy who's done a good bit audio mixing, Bob Clearmountain has always been my favorite engineer.
I'll be queuing the "Avalon" SACD up this afternoon.
